Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Bias Korean ("we," "our," or "us") is a Korean language learning app themed around K-pop culture, available as a mobile app and on the web. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how it is stored, and your rights regarding your data.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

2. Information We Collect

Account information (if you register):

  • Email address
  • Username and display name you choose
  • Profile information (bio, favorite K-pop artist and member, avatar)
  • If you register with email, your password is stored as a one-way hash — we cannot see it

Sign-in providers (Google / Apple):

  • If you sign in with Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In, we receive your name, email address, and (where available) profile picture from that provider
  • We do not receive your password from these providers

Learning and activity data:

  • Quiz history and learning progress
  • Battle (PvP) history and results
  • Leaderboard scores, points/XP, and streaks
  • Virtual room configuration and virtual item ownership
  • Language preferences and notification preferences

Subscription data:

  • Your Premium subscription status (active/expired) used to manage access to Premium features

Usage analytics data (to operate and improve the app):

  • Screens you visit, time spent on each screen, and session length
  • App events such as starting a quiz, joining a PvP battle, posting in the community, viewing the paywall, and product impressions/clicks in Monthly Hot (including affiliate link clicks)
  • Your approximate country of access, derived from the network request (we do NOT collect precise GPS location for analytics)
  • Analytics records use an internal user ID or a random anonymous ID — never your email address or name

Content you create (community, chat, uploads):

  • Community posts, comments, likes, and the photos/videos you attach (images up to 2MB, videos up to 8MB) are stored on our servers so other users can see them
  • Mini-hompy chat and guestbook messages, and PvP cheer chat (match chat is short-lived and expires automatically)
  • Uploaded media and posts are filtered against a banned-word list, can be reported by any user, and may be removed by moderation
  • Deleting a post deletes its attached media. Deleting your account deletes your posts and their media; comments you left on other people's posts can be anonymized on request via [email protected]

Search:

  • We do not store your search history. Search and translation text is processed transiently to return results (see AI Features) and is not saved to your profile or used for advertising

Store visit statistics (optional, opt-in only):

  • If — and only if — you separately agree in the app, we count when you are near a beauty shop (hair salons, Olive Young stores, beauty cafes and similar) while using the Beauty Map with location on
  • Only the shop name and visit time are stored. Your GPS coordinates are matched to a shop on your device and are never uploaded or stored on our servers
  • Hospitals, clinics (including dermatology and plastic surgery), religious sites and other sensitive places are never counted
  • Location permission is requested only as "While Using the App"; declining this feature does not affect any other feature
  • You can stop collection, view your visit records, or delete them all at any time in Settings → Privacy & Consent. Personal visit records are kept up to 12 months; anonymous shop-level statistics (not linked to you) may be kept longer

Consent records:

  • When you sign up or change consent settings, we record which document version you agreed to, when, on which platform, and whether optional marketing consents are on or off — kept as legal evidence of your choices

Purchase records:

  • Subscription events reported by RevenueCat (purchase, renewal, cancellation, expiration, refund, billing issue) and the associated amounts, used for accurate accounting and support — never your card details

We do not collect: your precise location, your contacts, or your payment card details. Where a feature needs your location (K-Beauty map "Near me"), it is requested separately by the iOS system permission at the time of use and is not stored for analytics.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create, manage, and secure your account
  • To save and synchronize your learning progress, quiz and battle history, XP, and streaks across your devices
  • To display your scores on the fandom leaderboard and enable battles between users
  • To provide the AI Korean Tutor and other learning features you request
  • To manage your Premium subscription access
  • To send you notifications you have opted in to
  • To keep the community safe, investigate reports, and prevent abuse and fraud
  • To maintain, secure, and improve the app
  • To measure, in aggregate, which screens and features are used (analytics as described above)
  • To keep evidence of your consent choices and honor your opt-outs
  • To measure Monthly Hot product interest (impressions/clicks) and operate affiliate links — clicks may be counted per country; no precise location is used

Marketing is separate: marketing emails and promotional push notifications are sent only if you opted in ([Optional] items at sign-up or in Privacy & Consent). Service emails/notifications required to operate your account are separate from marketing. You can withdraw optional consents at any time and continue using every core feature.

4. Premium Subscription

Bias Korean offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions — Premium Monthly and Premium Yearly — which unlock additional features.

  • Payments are processed securely by Apple through In-App Purchases. We never receive or store your payment card information.
  • We store your subscription status (for example, whether Premium is active) so we can provide and manage your Premium access.
  • We use a subscription management provider (RevenueCat) to verify purchase receipts and keep your Premium status in sync across your devices.
  • Because payments are processed by Apple, any refunds are handled by Apple under its policies — see the Refund Policy in our Terms of Service.
  • Within 24 hours of your first purchase you may request a full refund, to the extent permitted by applicable law and platform policy; after that, refunds follow the Apple App Store and Google Play refund policies.

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings. See our Terms of Service for full subscription, billing, and refund terms.

5. AI Features

Bias Korean includes an AI Korean Tutor and other AI-assisted learning features.

  • When you use these features, the text you enter (such as your prompts, messages, or answers) may be securely transmitted to trusted third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI) solely to generate the educational response you requested.
  • These AI interactions are used only to provide the learning assistance you request.
  • We do not use your AI conversations to train AI models.
  • Please avoid submitting confidential or highly sensitive personal information in AI chats.

6. Data Storage

To provide your account across devices and keep your data in sync, information such as your account details, learning progress, quiz and battle history, scores/XP, streaks, rankings, and Premium access status may be securely stored using our cloud services and backend infrastructure.

We rely on reputable providers to host and process this data. The fandom ranking leaderboard uses score data only — it does not publicly expose your email address or other private account information.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: With the third-party services listed below, only as needed to operate the app (for example, authentication, subscription management, AI responses, and hosting).
  • Sign-in providers (Google / Apple): When you choose social login, your authentication is handled by these providers under their own privacy policies.
  • Legal compliance: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the app.

8. User Reporting, Blocking, and Moderation

Bias Korean includes community features (such as mini-hompy visits, chat, and guestbooks) and tools to keep the community safe, including reporting and blocking.

  • You may report inappropriate users or content.
  • You may block another user. When you block someone, that user's profile, chat, and guestbook content are hidden from you, and you can no longer exchange messages with each other. You can unblock a user at any time.
  • Your block list is stored to apply your blocking preference and keep it in effect.
  • Reports may include information necessary to investigate the abuse (such as the reported account, the reason, and related content).
  • Report information may be reviewed by our moderation team.
  • Reported information is used only for moderation, safety, fraud prevention, and enforcing our policies.
  • False or abusive reports may also be investigated.

9. Notifications

If you grant notification permission, we may send you push notifications such as:

  • Learning reminders
  • Streak reminders
  • Battle invitations
  • New quizzes
  • Premium updates
  • Important account notices

You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

10. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Apple Sign-In — optional account sign-in
  • Google Sign-In — optional account sign-in
  • Firebase Authentication — account authentication and session management
  • RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt verification
  • Apple In-App Purchases — secure payment processing for subscriptions
  • OpenAI — AI-powered tutoring and learning responses
  • Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and backend functions
  • OpenFreeMap — map imagery for the Seoul Beauty Map. Map tiles are served through our own Cloudflare proxy and cache, so OpenFreeMap does not receive your IP address or any identifier; our servers request only the generic map areas being viewed, without user information. (Older app versions may still load tiles directly from OpenFreeMap until updated.) Your GPS position always stays on your device

11. Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your information. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections, and account passwords are hashed rather than stored in plain text. While we work hard to safeguard your data, no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password for your account.

12. Data Retention

  • Account data: kept while your account exists; deleted when you delete your account
  • Raw analytics events: kept up to 12 months, then deleted or reduced to aggregate statistics
  • Consent records: retained as legal evidence of your choices, including after account deletion where required
  • Purchase/subscription records: retained as required for accounting and tax obligations
  • Sandbox/test purchase data is kept separate from production data and may be purged at any time

12-1. Children's Privacy

Bias Korean is a general-audience educational app and is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country, such as 16 in parts of the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

13. Your Rights & Consent Withdrawal

You have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — update your account information in the app's profile settings
  • Deletion — delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account in the app. This removes your profile, chat/guestbook, quiz ranking and score history, Journey progress, analytics and store-visit records, community posts and their media, and subscription entitlement cache. Consent records are retained as legal evidence and purchase records as required for accounting — both no longer linked to a live account
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Opt-out — withdraw optional consents (marketing emails, promotional notifications) at any time in the app: My Room → Settings → Privacy & Consent. Withdrawal stops the related collection and sending going forward
  • Consent history — see which document versions you agreed to and when, in Privacy & Consent

To exercise these rights, use Settings → Delete Account in the app, or contact us at [email protected].

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
